21.5.2005 Day 7

Touristy day seeing Cinco Terra

We're all here, but not really awake

We took a 3.75 hour bus drive to get to Cinco Terra (the 5 terraced towns by the ocean). We had really pretty views along the way

Sheep herder

Orange, lemon trees, olive and wine orchards

We're here!

pretty blue water

We didn't spend too much time on the beach. Those crazy Europeans, always taking things off.

Tim, on the crag, deep in thought

pretty water

okay, now for the fun part - getting down!

We were feeling cheap so we hiked between the towns instead of taking the train like everyone else. Hence, we only saw 2 of the towns really. At the bottom of this picture is a cave that we climbed into later to get out of the sun and reflect on God's goodness.

WWII bunker?

Tim's sighted in

and so is Dyanne

This is St. Francis of Assisi!

These tourist boats would be crammed with people.

A church on the top of the highest hill around

The churches' wine source

Looks almost like a model huh?

Back inside the church

Father, ??????

This is the Ferrari Family tombsite

Lotsa lizards here

This is inside the cemetary

It's almost as if these things are to keep watch over the mountainside

Wow, pretty

Here's the cave

From the mouth

Tim and I tried to go in

It was a mess though b/c all the rock grips ran only one direction. Everything was dank, and if you fall you fall into the water.

I got in to the back, but had a tough time getting out b/c there were no grips the other direction! Tim had flip flops on so he stayed put.

In the second town there were two churches right next to one another. The first one was modern, even had all glass sliding doors at the entrance. The second was an eerie church that had symbols of death all inside it. Pirate church? Demonic? Not sure what this is about, but look at these pictures!

Maybe the only half-way normal thing in the church was this cross

But the skeletons were not

This skull looks kinda piratey

If you can read latin or Italian, please tell me what this says

Definately creepy

Even this chandilear looks creepy

This guy has got quite a load to carry

"You fool! You've got no arms!"

This is about as far as we got hiking. Notice the lean-to on the shoreline

This is as far as we got?

Tim wanted this picture, okay...

On our way back to catch the bus

That's a big ocean out there

Group shot before we leave. Too bad they focused on that rope instead of us

The drive back was nice
