Day 3 - Driving the table and cape

Day 3, Part 1. Scenic drive around table mountain area.

Said fairwell to Anton's family and drove back to the airport in the morning. Finally, after a bit of waiting, I saw their wonderful ugly faces! Just kidding! After a trip to Avis to add David to the driver's list, we had lunch at Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, at a restaurant called La Playa.

From the restaurant, this is Robben Island, where Nelson Mandella was held in prison for years.

After lunch we embarked on a scenic drive around the cape, starting with table mountain, camps bay, hout bay, then down towards the actual cape. This is signal hill, our starting point - elevation 350 m.

This is most of the table mountain. You can see where it gets it's name, right? That blip on the right top is the cable car station. Taken from V&A Waterfront

David and Nick took about 200 car pictures while I was driving....woah there! Most of them were complete rubbish, but this one was kinda neat. This should be Green Point or Camps Bay

Housing by the water's edge is very very expensive. Some parts are cut out of the rock clifs. Appearently the technology came from the Italians, who were brought there by the Allied forces during WWII. At that time South Africa was, of course, part of the British commonwealth

Camps Bay?

Hold me, Leo!? (reference to Titanic, if you didn't get that)

...Swim out past the breakers....and watch the world die....

We had to go play in the water, or at least we thought.

David's spotted the Leviathan

The expensive housing that was made possible by Italian POW's.

That's me!!

Nick, looking cool in his Concho hat

Man, I know there's a lot of these rock and water pictures in here, but I had a hard time deleting them! They're so pretty and cool!

Just south of Camps Bay is a mountain range called the Twelve Apostles - named for the individual heads - er...mountains. This is most of the twelve I think.

B-E-A-UTIFUL!

Suther Peak, 615m. Nope, didn't climb it.

On the way to Hout Bay

Stopped to change clothes, because the cars don't have air conditioning and it gets hot when the sun hits you. The sun is VERY INTENSE in SA. The restroom costed 2 ZAR (Zouth Afrikan Rand) which we didn't quite have. I stuck 1 Rand in the machine and jammed it up (appearently it only accepted 2ZAR pieces), so we decided to leave... Quickly.

For sale: trees and a plot with a view and cool radiating clouds.

Hout Bay area, as seen from the Chapman's Peak drive.

The Sentinel, 331m high.

Hout Bay, con't.

Hey, that's me! Dude, you have no idea how sick I am at this point. I even look white...

That's David

Nick getting a picture of David getting a video of Nick

The Sentinel, up close, with cool looking water.

This is Chapman's Peak drive. Sometimes it's closed b/c of rocks fallen onto the road. But not today my friend, not today!

Again, Hout Bay and the Sentinel

One of 'em Italian tunnels.

I think this is Chapman's Bay. Arguably the most beautiful, largest beach area. And not a single sole on it.

The lighthouse is there to warn people of some rather large rocks in the water. The small black dots are kelp.

Trust me, there really are rocks out there.

Us, lovin' it.

These thatched roofs are everywhere in SA. Great for rain prevention and insulation. Bad for burnination. Trogdor Strikes again!
